This area of surgery is specifically related to diseases and conditions which affect the colon, rectum and anus.  There is a wide spectrum of problems ranging from malignant tumours of the colon and rectum to inflammatory and functional bowel disease. This area also covers problems related to defaecation such as haemorrhoids, fistulae and disturbances of continence.
